Which scans each city has
Everyday imaging is close to universal. The interesting column is MRI: it clusters in the main centres, so for many towns the honest answer is that an MRI means a drive. Check the town you would travel to as well as your own.

What the distribution shows
Concentration
Auckland holds 35% of all listed clinics, and the three largest cities and towns together hold 52%. Imaging in New Zealand follows population, so smaller centres depend on fewer sites.
MRI gaps
35 of 64 cities and towns have no clinic listing MRI, including Oamaru, Taupō, Ōpōtiki, Ōrewa. Patients there usually travel, or wait for a public appointment in a larger centre.
CT gaps
31 cities and towns have no clinic listing CT. X-ray and ultrasound are far more widely distributed than cross-sectional imaging.
Public and private mix
292 of 341 listings are private or community clinics and 49 are public hospital departments. Hospital departments mainly see referred and acute patients.
